Book Review: The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle

  Hi everyone,

I recently finished The Trials of Apollo: the Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is about here before heading into my review.  Another bookish thing you can check out is my TikTok @brinadancer to see all the books I'm reading this month. I'd love to know what your reading this month let me know either here in the comments or on my video.

Hopping on into the review.  I started reading the book because I thought it would be a pretty easy read and that I could get it done quickly. But I was wrong on that it took me forever to get through this book. I literally felt like I was on the same book for months. Granted I did start a new job and everything while trying to read this book so maybe that's why it felt so long.

Anyways, I did think that this book was a pretty good story. I do love Apollo and his humor. I think that this started out pretty mysterious and I would definitely say you need to have read at least part of The Heros of Olympus series before reading this. It does have spoilers from that series and there are characters from it was well that make an appearance in the book.

Things I did like that Nico is in this book and he's with Will love that. I also love Meg's character she is a pretty cool demigod with her ability to call on a nature spirit Peaches is super funny. Things I didn't like I think this was a bit long we had a lot of filler it wasn't till like last 50 pages that it really got super exciting. Again maybe that was because it took me so long to get through it.

I would recommend this book. Especially if you have invested in reading the other books in the series.  I did like some parts of it but I wish it would have been a little faster. If you have read this book let me know your comments below.

Lastly, if you're looking for other books I have reviews up for Arc of A Scythe Trilogy up, Marked, and the Lost Heroes of Olympus series: The Lost HeroSon of Neptune and Mark of Athena. And  A Storm of Magic and many more throughout my blog.

Thanks for reading,  please don’t forget to like, comment, and follow for more of my posts.

Netflix Book Tag

It's been awhile since I've done a book tag. I thought that this one looked fun since literally everyone is staying in and watching Netflix and reading books. I know I am and several other streaming services like Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. I'll have a list of my favorite shows coming soon in my end of Summer favorites. If you have a suggestion for another book tag you'd like to see me do let me know in the comments below. Now lets get on it to this tag.

Recently Watched: The book you most recently read-

The Falconer by Elizabeth May I have a book review up for this one you can check it out here.

Top Picks: A book recommended to you based on another book you’ve read-

A Circle of Shadows by Evlyn Sky. I read the Crown's Game by her and saw on Tik-tok that she has released another series which is awesome. I loved the Crown's Game.

Recently Added: The book you most recently bought-

So I've bought quite a few books. You can check out my hauls over on TikTok @brinadancer. I guess my favorites have been the Apollo series by Rick Riordan.

Popular on Netflix: One book that you have and one book that you haven’t read that everyone has been talking about-

Midnight Sun  and the Twilight Saga by Stephine Meyer. I am currently reading Midnight Sun and have read the Twilight saga. I love them both. It's really bringing me back to when I first got in to reading in Middle and High School

Popular on Netflix- A book that everyone is talking about

A book that everyone is talking about but I haven't read yet is Bone Criers Moon. I looks super good. I hope it's worth the hype.

Comedies: A funny book-

I'm going to say the Magnus Chase series. It's pretty funny anything really by Rick Roirdan has some funny parts to it.

Dramas: A character that is a total drama king or queen

Evie O'Neil from The Diviners by Libbra Bray.

Cartoons: a book with cartoons on the cover-

So I haven't actually read this one yet but it look pretty interesting and the cover is more anime style. I chose The School for good and Evil by Soman Chainani.

Watch again: a book or series you want to read again-

The Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I loved these books and really should give them another read since they were so good.

Documentaries: a non-fiction book that you would recommend to everyone-

I don' t read any non-fictions books unless its for research, web development, or technology. Even them that's usually just articles on online.

Action & Adventure: an action packed book-

Auora Rising. I'm not quite all the way through with this one but it's pretty action packed from the first page.

New releases: A new release or soon-to-be-released book that you’re excited about-

A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir. Super excited for this one even though I haven't read the third one A Reaper at the Gates yet. But I was not expecting another book after Reaper at the Gates. It should be pretty interesting.

That's all for this tag. Thanks to A Book Lovers Playlist for this one. I know there are several others who have also done this tag this is just the one I saw first. If you have read any of these books or want to do this tag  I love to see your answers.

Book Review: The Mark of Athena

Hi everyone,
I recently finished The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is abouhere before heading in to my review.  This is the third book in The Heroes of Olympus series. There are 5 books all together in the series. Plus some of my favorite characters from past books and previous series. Before I get in to the review too much you can check out my February 2020 TBR to see it and the other books I'm reading this month. I'd love to know what your reading this month as week let me know either here in the comments or on my video.

Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free ,for the most part since this is the third book in the series, The Mark of Athena. Now that all our heroes are together they must journey across the sea to save Rome. I definitely liked that all our heroes are finally together and were ready to go on a great adventure. Which leads me to how long it takes us to actually get to Rome. It's quite a bit in the book before we ever reach Rome. These are big books! I was hoping there would be a little bit more time spent in Rome but the side quests that are in the Mark of Athena are pretty good. Like when Annabeth, Hazel and Piper go off to find Aphrodite or when Percy, Jason, and Piper go to find Dionysus.
Second thing that I enjoyed about this book is that we get to see all the couples and light love interests that are happening as well. I love Percy and Annabeth so much their adorable.
I also loved that once we got to Rome Annabeth has a totally separate  mission. I like that she finally gets her moment to shine. Plus Annabeth doesn't have any specific powers other than being smart to help her.

One thing that I did not quite enjoy so much was the pace of this book. It was a little slow since there were so many side quests before we reach Rome.  I would say this is one book that you can spend a lot of time on. Can I say that again IT'S A BIG BOOK! lol

Over all I enjoyed this book. I'm taking a slight break from this series before heading in the to next book The House of Hades. I definitively want to see how the next book goes since now our heroes have been split up again. This was just so large and I had previously read the first and second one so I'm ready for a little change in reading.

If you've read this book let me know what your thoughts are and what your reading right now in the comments.

Thanks for reading,  please don’t forget to like, comment, and follow for more of my posts.

Book Review: The Son of Neptune

Hi everyone,
I recently finished The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is about here before heading in to my review.  This is the second book in The Heroes of Olympus series. I think there are 5 books all together in the series. Plus some of my favorite characters from past books. Before I get in to the review too much you can check out my January 2020 TBR to see it and the other books I'm reading this month. I'd love to know what your reading this month as week let me know either here in the comments or on my video.

Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free: The Son of Neptune follows three heroes, two new: Hazel and Frank and then of course Percy from the Percy Jackson Series. This second book is the other half from the first book it's essentially a parallel to Jason story from The Lost Hero. This way were setting up both sides and all the heroes that will be in the next few books in the series. I will say I think I enjoyed this second one more than the first since I love Percy's character and I thought that this one went way faster than The Lost Hero. It didn't seem to have as may down points. Maybe because there wasn't as much information about the god and such to get though and also the time were Jason's story took months Percy's was only a few weeks and he spend a few months either asleep or wondering around before he made it it Camp Jupiter.
I really enjoyed our heroes Hazel and Frank. Plus the little cameo of Nico. Nico was another of my favorite characters from The Percy series; love that he is a son of Hades. To keep it spoiler free I'll just say that Hazel and Frank have pretty awesome backgrounds. I love the way their pasts are intertwined in to the story and that we discover more about each of the as the story goes along.
Lastly, the story as a whole was pretty awesome. I think since this paralleled to Jason story this one just seemed so much faster and more interesting. It definitely followed the traditional Riordan story set (which is get a quest, go on quest, beat said evil and return home) but with way more twists and character building.
Over all I really enjoyed this book I've already started on the third one the Mark of Athena since I got really excited at the end of Son of Neptune. I definitively can't wait to see where all out heroes go next.

If you've read this book let me know what your thoughts are and what your reading right now in the comments.

Book Review: The Lost Hero

Hi everyone,
I recently finished The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is abouhere before heading in to my review.  This is the first book in The Heroes of Olympus series. I think there are 5 books all together in the series. Plus some of my favorite characters from past books. Before I get in to the review too much you can check out my January 2020 TBR to see it and the other books I'm reading this month. I'd love to know what your reading this month as week let me know either here in the comments or on my video.

Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free: The Lost Hero follows three new heroes: Jason, Piper and Leo. These heroes go on a new journey that starts off the series. Jason is our main character and he wakes up on a bus with Piper and Leo. Jason has no memory of the past  and must journey to get his memory back though this first book and to stop the world for being destroyed.
I really enjoyed these new characters especially Piper. I love that she is a daughter of Aphrodite and can charm speak.
Another part of this series and book that I like is the blending of Roman and Greek gods and culture. I think this is super cool and really interesting since I am not as familiar with Roman Gods.
One thing I didn't like about this was it was a bit slow at times. Even though there were interesting parts there was just a lot of information to cover with this first book. Also, since Jason had amnesia and couldn't remember everything it was a bit frustrating that there wasn't a way to find out more till the end of the story.
Over all I really enjoyed this book I've already started on the second one Son of Neptune since I wanted to see how this story goes. I can't wait till we get all of our heroes together for an epic battle.

If you've read this book let me know what your thoughts are and what your reading right now in the comments.
