Hi everyone,
I recently finished Marked by P. C. Cast & Kristen Cast. I gave this book 3.8-4ish out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is about here before heading in to my review. This is the fist in a vampire school series. This series is pretty long with 12 books in it. Luckily their relativity short though so hopefully I can read most of them. Before I get in to the review you can check out my February 2020 TBR to see it and the other books I'm reading this month. I'd love to know what your reading this month as week let me know either here in the comments or on my video.
Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free. I really liked Marked. I thought it was a pretty good. story but I'm a sucker for "trashy" vampire novels. I really liked that this was also set in a boarding school type setting; again part of that trope of school age novels. I also liked the mix of different mythologies, since our main character Zoey Redbird is Cherokee but she is becoming a vampire. Vampires have their own religion and mythologies. I think this made for a very interesting start to a huge series. Which brings me to Zoey shes a pretty good character. I wish she was a little bit more since shes a bit flat in this first book but she's still pretty cool. Especially since she ends up with some special powers from Nxy, the goddess, takes a special interest in her. As part of that, Marked Vampires have this interesting tattoo. I think that is another cool different concept.
Another character I really liked was Stevie Ray. She's totally adorable and a very relatable character since shes more of a southern bell type. I think that her and Zoeys demanic worked well together.
Things I didn't like since this is a teenage drama at some points the banter between characters was a bit confusing to read and not quite polished. It would have been a little better if for scene where Zoey and her friends were together if it was straight dialogue and no asides for Zoeys thoughts.
Over all I enjoyed this book. It was a nice change of pace from my previous reading since I was on the Heroes of Olympus series. I have book reviews for The Lost Hero, Son of Neptune and Mark of Athena. Make sure you check those out. I definitely liked that this was a vampy "trash" book. It was very entertaining. I definitely want to continue on with this series. I have the next 3 since I got them for Christmas. Hopefully over the next few months I can get to them.
