Book Review: Ruby Red

This past weekend I read Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. Before I get in to my review (which will be spoiler free) let me tell you a little about the book and what I thought going in to it.
First the book is set in modern day London with a main character named Gwyneth Shepherd. As Goodreads says: " Gwyneth Shepherd's sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth, who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!
Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon--the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust."
When I first heard of this book, I was like that sounds super interesting and awesome. Who does love time travel? Plus the hype for this book is crazy.  Tons and tons of people have told me how good it is.

Now that I have read it. It's not all that great. I would give it three and a half stars out of five. I just didn't like the writing style it was very confusing for about the frirst 40 pages of the book. I almost put it down due to this. I'm glad I didn't though the actually story is pretty good over all. Although, I did have some problems with how to we find out information and we still didn't really have a good wrap up at the end. Maybe this was because the book it's self is only 230 and some odd pages long. I didn't feel like we really got to the "meat" of the story till about page 190, 200ish. Considering that this is only a trilogy, I'm just wondering how were going to get a complete picture of the world and solve the mystery.

Would I recommend this book? Yeah probably it is definitely a super quick read. I almost read it in one setting, not because it was  that good but because I kept hoping it would get better and I really needed a short read to help catch me up on my reading goal.

I hope this helps you decided to read or not read this book. If you do read it leave me a comment telling me what you thought about it. Don't forget to follow me on my social media: the links are below.
