Book Review: Under the Cover of Darkness

  Hi everyone,

I recently finished Under the Cover of Darkness by A.K. Barr. I gave this book 3.9 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Hopping on in to the review. I'll keep this as spoiler free. So I picked up this book not really know what it was about. I will say that may have been a good thing since I didn't have any expectations. I think that the concept of there being goddess and them being sent to another world is a really cool idea and I like the idea that this was more of a high fantasy. I do wish that we had more world building since it was a bit confusing at times to tell if we were more in a high fantasy or modern urban setting. On a similar note I think it was a little confusing with the flashbacks once we got to the main action of the book. Also if you know me you know I'm not the biggest fan of multiple points of view unless there really well done, this one there were so many characters I think it was a bit too much since we get the knights, the goddesses and anyone else that may be in contact with theses characters. 

Moving in to what I did enjoy. I love the fact that the goddess had multiple powers I want more on the powers and how they are going to use them. I'm a sucker for girl power. I also really like the fact that each goddess gets a familiar. I think this is a really cool feature for each of them. Secondly, I liked the knights. Kayden is a really great character along with the other knights. I think these characters were well executed. 

Overall I'm glad I made it though this one. I would recommended it if your looking for a interesting read. If you have read this one I love to know your thoughts in the comments.

Book Review: A Storm of Glass and Stars

I recently finished A Storm of Glass and Stars by Marion Blackwood. I gave this book 4.8 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Hopping on in to the review. Before reading this make sure you've read the other books in the series. I'd hate to spoil anything for you!  I was super excited to get this one and start it. I love Storm as a character and couldn't wait to see where this one went since we left off last time with them taking over Pernula. This one started out interesting though since Storm decided that she wanted to go explore on her own which ends up getting her in trouble like usual. By trouble I mean her, Shade and Elaran end up being taken by the star elves. I love the star elf aesthetic though all glass, white, having extravagant balls that kind of thing. Super on point. Totally not Storms thing this is where it really got good I would definitely say this one is a plot twist kind of thing going on. It really surprised me I won't say exactly what happens so you can read to find out but there were times I was saying to myself  "What the ****!! This can't be happening." Which is why I put 4.8 since my feels were all messed up. lol I'm really glad it all worked out in the end and that Storm and all her friends prevail. Also, I'm finally glad we get a little Storm and Shade action like come on the tension between these two is incredible. I really hope there is more of that in the next novel along with more about these mystical Storm Casters 

Overall I would recommended this book especially if you love Storm and I totally think this one is better than the last one because of the blood elfs. This also a fairly easy read so it's good to pick up and read almost all at once. I want to again say thank you to Marion Blackwood for sending me this book. It was great and I can't wait for the next one

Book Review: The Blackthorn Key

 Hi everyone,

I recently finished The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Hopping on in to the review. I'll try not to give to much away and keep this spoiler free. I literally just picked this up because of the book blurbs. It sounded so interesting because it said an "apprentices journey, hidden codes, puzzles and secret societies" and it came with a warning page. What more could you want! I was so shocked by this book it was so good, super easy and fast to read since its middle grade. I could not put it down I read the whole book in 3 days while on vacation.

I really liked the character of Christopher he is a super fun and rambunctious boy. I love that he's an apprentice to an apothecary and that his best friend helps to take care of him after things start going crazy. I also really liked the mystery aspect and the hidden codes and puzzles in the one. They were super entertaining. I think they were well woven in to the story. I also liked that every recipe that Christoper goes to make is an actual recipes from the 1600, it's totally crazy. Also, I appreciate Tom, the best friend, that goes along with pretty much everything Christopher does even if it gets him in trouble. I will say I think that he portrayal of how children were treated in this is accurate since most kids during this time period were expected to behave a certain way. So just a slight warning on that note.  

I would definitely recommend this one. Since I totally fell in love it with and can't wait to get the next books in the series. I really liked that it was so fast to read and super entertaining. It was a page turner for sure.

Fall Favorites 2019

It's favorites time. Fall is one of my favorite times to do a favorites post. I enjoy so many things about fall. These are some of the things I have been enjoying this fall. This includes everything from makeup, clothes to fall drinks and food. Let me know some of your favorites in the comments below or if you enjoy the same things I do. Make up
I have been loving the Morphe 39s pallet. It has such beautiful gem stone colors in it. I have been really in to the pinks, purples and golds for this fall and this pallet is perfect. I also got so luck to get the Jeffree X Shane Dawson Conspiracy and Controversy pallet bundle. These pallets are so pretty. I love the blues and pinks in them. It was so hard to get the pallets though. I literally had to wait for 3 hours in que just to check out.

Clothes
I have to talk about 2 pairs of shoes I got this fall. There so perfect for my style. I got a pair of T-strap glitter kitten heels and a pair of iridescent glitter tennis shoes for this fall. They are the best shoes ever I think they are just so gorgeous and I have been wearing them non-stop.
I have also been in to the plaid plants trend I love the pair that I got they also have glitter on them and I showed an outfit styling on my Youtube channel make sure you check that out here. Along with some of my other favorite outfits for fall.
Lastly I have a maroon corduroy skirt that is great for fall. It so warm and its the perfect length for my height. It's not too short and its not too long.

Food & Drink
Basic white girl time I love Pumpkin Spiced Lattes. I also have been loving the Jade Citrus Mint tea. As far as food goes I have have been loving cereal specifically the pumpkin spiced Special K, Berry Cheerios and Oat Crunch Cheerios.

Other Fall Favorites
These are a few house hold item I love the Leaves Candle. It smells so freaking good.
Another great thing about this fall was that I was able to see so many plays and movies. I absolutely loved getting to go see Rocky Horror and Young Frankenstein plays. They were amazing.

It was such a great fall filled with all kinds of great things. I can't wait to see what winter brings.

Book Review: The Passion

Hi everyone,
I recently finished The Passion by L.J. Smith. I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is about here before heading in to my review.  The is the third in the Dark Visions series. You can check out my October Wrap up and November TBR to see it and the other books I'm reading this month. You can also check out my review of the first book here The Strange Power and the second book The Possessed. 

Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free:  I was pretty excited for this last book in the trilogy after finishing The Possessed. To keep this spoiler free, I'll just say that some crazy stuff happens at the end of The Possessed which leads Kait and her friends back to the institute and surrounding area. I think this is where this book got a little slow though since Kait was determined to solve the problem on her own. I really liked her being with all the other characters from the past books. The whole point was for her and her friends to stick together. I felt like we had a lot of her waiting time at the institute meet previous psychics that we really didn't need since this is the last book in the series. 
Also I think too there was just so much waiting for the end. But at least the end was super good and action packed and I didn't know if Kait and her friends were going to be able to make it though till then. It was definitely suspenseful. Which I totally live for. 
Another good point is that our love triangle gets a little messy, I'll just leave it there so you can read this one to find out. Over all as a last book I was left wanting a little more action. I would still recommend this book especially if you've read the other ones which were considerable better just so you can see how the trilogy wraps up and what happens to Kait.

Book Review: The Possessed

Hi everyone,
I recently finished The Possessed by L.J. Smith. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free: Number one I really enjoyed this book and I was interested to see where this series when after the first one. Again we have our main characters of Kait, Rob, Gabriel, Anna and Lewis who have all set out to escape the Institute that they were sent to since some crazy stuff happened at the end of the last book. 
I don't think this book had to middle book syndrome too bad. There were some parts that were a bit repetitive through out the first half. I think these could have just been speed up a little since literally the last 40 or so pages is jammed packed full of information and action. I wish there could have been a little more time spent on this last 40 page section since we have an introduction to new characters and history of how Kait and her friends ended up with these psychic powers.
I definitely think this is worth a read if you have the time. For me this book only took about a week if that. It's super short so you can pretty much fly though them. Also, can we take a minute to acknowledge how bad this cover is? I definitely think the bind up cover is better but it doesn't show a cover for each book. Anyway, I would definitely recommended this and the first one in the series since they are overall really good and entertaining.

Book Review: A Strange Power

Hi everyone,
I recently finished A Strange Power by L.J. Smith. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free: I first started this book not really knowing what to expect, except that from attempting to read The Vampire Diaries which is also by this author that it may not be very good. Boy was a surprised by the one though, I really enjoyed it and the whole concept of kids going to an institute to learn about their powers. It almost gave me Fallen kinda of vibes except with out the angels and there is a bit of a love triangle between our main characters. The love triangle is definitely not too over done though like in some YA, its very subtle, which leaves more time for actual story building and other characters. I gotta say I really like the mix of characters that the book has since we have a mix of good guy, bad guy, nerd and hippie and each character has a different set of powers. So cool. I also love the fact that this was a super fast read. I think I read in about a week which is really pretty fast for me. I know the horrible cover art doesn't do it justice but I think overall this is a pretty good book and I can't wait to see where the rest of the series goes. I would definitely give this one a read if you get the chance.

Book Review: The Tramua

Hi everyone,
I recently finished The Trauma- the second book in the series Pebble in the Dark by Antony Botting. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is about here before heading in to my review.  If you haven't yet make sure you've checked out my review for the first book Pebble in the Dark here. 


First off, I would like to again thank the author for sending me this book. I am so thankful and I never expected that I would ever receive anything from anyone ever. So this is totally awesome and so cool!

Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free: Much like the first book, A Pebble in the Dark, was fast paced and action packed which I really liked. I also liked that we get a lot more Sci-Fi elements in The Trauma than the first book.  The sci-fi elements in the story almost remind me a bit of the futuristic part of Cloud Atlas, which I think is pretty cool.
I would say that the first half of the book was definitely my favorite since there is so much going on with all of our character's and leading into The Trauma. 
Lastly the few problems I had occurred mainly in the second half of the story. Now I totally know we live in a George R.R. Martin era ( A.K.A Game of Thrones, if you didn't know that was the author) where killing characters should be expected but there is a point where even I'm like WWWWHHYY? That was what happened here. I truly didn't want to see some of the characters go especially in some of the ways they did but by the end of novel it almost got resolved. It will be interesting to see where the third book takes us. Disclaimer I know that was very vague and general...no spoilers remember... just know you need to read the book to see what I mean and who dies and how. 
I would definitely recommend that you give this book a read and check out this series. I think it is an incredible first series for an author in a difficult genera to master.

Book Review: A Storm of Silver and Ash

Hi everyone,

I recently finished A storm of Silver and Ash by Marion Blackwood. I gave this book 4.8 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Also, I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. So huge thank you to Marion Blackwood to sending me this book. My review is also up on Goodreads. 

Now hopping on in to the review this is spoiler free. I really like how fast paced this book was, I really enjoyed that we were pretty much thrown right in to the action with our main character Storm. And Storm is a totally badass, she reminds me of  Cleina Sardothan from Throne of Glass or Androma Racella from Zenith. Which is totally a good thing, since I love this type of character. Although I would have like a bit more backstory about Storm a little bit sooner in the story instead of near the end that way I could have understood her feeling like a "on coming storm" a bit better besides that she is just a thief. I also really like Liam's character he is definitely like the little brother of the story. I also have to mention Shade. I really liked Shades character too since I never could tell which side he was playing. You'll defiantly have to read the book to figure out what I mean by that. Spoiler free remember. lol I also really enjoyed the elves,  they were more like the elves from Lord of the Rings. They were woodland based with a bit of magic. Super cool that the magic aspect was woven in nicely and not too overpowering with the elve characters.  I also liked how their society was completely different than the one Storm came from. Storm was very used the this society where there was a true class system where there was a major different between the upper and lower. I liked that in her society that the lower class was separated in the guilds and that each guild had a place and respect for each other. Very cool. 

Moving on from characters and story in to the setting I liked the world building overall. I would have love to have a map though just so that we can see the world I little better. Especially the city and how its laid out in districts. I just think that would have made a cool addition. 

Lastly writing style. I love the language used in this it was very modern for more of a classic fantasy themed story. I defiantly found some of the lines that character's would say to be pretty funny. Like " Join  the army, they said. It'll be an easy job, they said."  

Overall I would recommended this book especially if you like fantasy and characters that fit in the the Throne of Glass type genera. I personally love that kind of story and I really enjoyed this book. I would have like to have a few things add to the story has a whole but it was A+ for a debut novel.

Book Review: Halfway to the Grave

Hi everyone,

I recently finished Halfway to the Grave by Jeaneine Frost. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Now hopping on in to the review this is spoiler free: 
I really enjoyed this book and found it very entertaining. I also think is so perfect for a fall read. I wasn't too sure that I would like this book since it is listed as a paranormal romance, as we all know I'm not too big on the romance part. I found though that this was more than the romance, believe me though it was in there, but some super awesome vampire fighting since that's the whole point is that our main character Cat becomes a vampire hunter. I also really liked the character of Bones since he helps Cat kill other vampires and is the love interest. I also liked that this book was really fast to read and kept me interest since the last book I was reading was so slow. That's part of why it was so fast was that you never knew what Cat and Bones were going to get in to next once they started really hunting vampires which was like less than 50 to 75 pages in. The main part of the her becoming a vampire hunter was for Cat to eventually find her father which kind of got lost in the rest of the action that happens, which is okay considering there are a ton of other books in this series.  I definitely can't wait to see where this story goes for the rest of the series.
