I recently finished A Strange Power by L.J. Smith. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is about here before heading in to my review. The is the first in the Dark Visions series. You can check out my October TBR to see it and the other books I'm reading this month.
Now hopping on in to the review and this is spoiler free: I first started this book not really knowing what to expect, except that from attempting to read The Vampire Diaries which is also by this author that it may not be very good. Boy was a surprised by the one though, I really enjoyed it and the whole concept of kids going to an institute to learn about their powers. It almost gave me Fallen kinda of vibes except with out the angels and there is a bit of a love triangle between our main characters. The love triangle is definitely not too over done though like in some YA, its very subtle, which leaves more time for actual story building and other characters. I gotta say I really like the mix of characters that the book has since we have a mix of good guy, bad guy, nerd and hippie and each character has a different set of powers. So cool. I also love the fact that this was a super fast read. I think I read in about a week which is really pretty fast for me. I know the horrible cover art doesn't do it justice but I think overall this is a pretty good book and I can't wait to see where the rest of the series goes. I would definitely give this one a read if you get the chance.
