Book Review: Shadow and Bone

Hi everyone,
I recently finished Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. You can see more about what this book is about here before heading in to my review since it may contain SPOLIERS.

I went in to the book not really knowing all that much other than all the hype that surrounds it and that their is a possible TV series/movies in the works. I think its totally worth all that hype though. There are several good things about this book. This first being the setting, we're in the Russian like country called Ravka,  that is totally cut off from the rest of the world on one side by the Fold or a great sea of darkness that covers the land. Which brings me to the nest great thing about this book the maigcal/powers of the Grisha. Freaking love LOVE it. There are different kinds of Grisha based on what kind of talent they have which is totally cool.

Now on to more of the characters and story. The main character Alina is pretty awesome since she ends up have a decent power where she can summon light. Which makes her one of the most powerful since the whole goal is eventually to rid the world of the Fold and the Darkling. That brings us the the Darkling, I'm totally a fan even though he's the bad guy. I really almost wanted Alina to be with him and not Mal, the best friend. Mal is the other major character in this book and he is Alina best friend and an excellent tracker which is a necessary skill later on as the story develops. Once we see that Alina has this power, she is then whisked away and put in to the Little Palace to serve the Darkling. As you can tell from above the Darkling clearly has other plans for Alina in that he wants to use her to help move the Fold in to the other countries boarding Ravka so that he can essentially run the content. As the plot thickens we learn that Alina in order to survive needs the help of amplifier and only Mal can track since it is a her amplifier is a mythical stag creature. Thus putting our characters back together and in position for Alina and Mal to make their get way from the Darklings clutches. This is where this first book leaves us. I'm so ready for the next one and to see how the next one goes. I definitely think this is worth a read just because this word is so interesting. Let me know your thoughts on this book and what you think is the best part in the comments below.
