Book Review: Throne of Glass

I recently read Throne of Glass. I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars. OMG! Where to start with this book. It was amazing, I think I read it all in a week maybe not even a week it was so good. I could not put it down the story is just so engrossing.

This is the book summary from Goodreads: "After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined."

I loved Celaena's character she is such a bad-ass there is no other way to say it, sorry for the language. She is just so much like a hard core assassin and a typical girl at the same time. She really is a great character to follow through this story.

I also really like the main plot of there's so much mystery as to why their kingdom has become this way. At the same time their are still traces of the "old ways" left. The story takes you on a crazy journey; once you read this one you'll definitely need the next ones so you can keep reading.

The only thing that I find a little off is the love triangle if you can really call it that between Celaena, Chole, and Dorin. I kind fell like Celaene doesn't need a man really cause she such a strong character but I get that she human and wants someone to love.

I would recommend this book to anyone, especially if they like high fantasy with a similar "game" to the Hunger Games. Plus all the magic and political themes are just great. I would definitely recommend that you give this book a try.

How to: Dashboard for Your Planner

This is going to be a quick tutorial on how to make a dashboard for your planner. Dashboards are uses to keep sticky notes and page flags organized. They are also super cute and make using sticky notes in your planner easy. So lets get started:

      Materials:
  • Card stock or Scrapbook paper
  • Laminator machine (I got mine from Walmart for $20)
  • Laminating pouches
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Hole punch
  • Sticky notes all sizes and colors, what you use is up to you and what you have
     Method:
  1. Take and measure your planner
  2. Mark card stock/ scrapbook paper to fit and cut out
  3. Place sized paper in laminating pouch and laminate
  4. If there is excess lamination cut it off
  5. Punch holes on side of laminated paper and cut to fit around rings of your planner
  6. Take sticky notes and place a tape O on back
  7. Place sticky notes on to laminated paper
  8. Place in planner (I put mine near the front)
  9. All done!
I hope you enjoyed this simple tutorial. It really is super easy to make your own dashboard and its completely customizable so you can fit it to your planner.

Book Review: Rebel Bell

I have recently read Rebel Bell by Rachel Hawkins. I rated this book 4.3 out of 5 stars because I had a few problems but over all it was really good. Let me start by staying I really enjoyed this book.  It was great for entertainment purposes. So let's get in to the review.

First off this book is about Harper Price, a girl that is the epitome of southern charm. Some crazy things start going on at Harper's school that lead her in to a crazy adventure in becoming a Paladin. Once Harper finds out how to deal with her new powers she then must save her charge: David Stark the school reporter and Harper's enemy, and everything else that's important in her life.

This review does have spoilers so skip to the end to see if I would recommended this book.
I really like the character Harper Price is so funny. She really ties to be the true southern bell some of the things she said made me literally laugh out loud. I really liked the part where she first discovers her powers and tries to look up information on what a Paladin is, She finds all the WOW, World of Warcraft, sites that talk about Paladins. I just found that hysterical.

The main story of the book is really pretty good. We get dumped in to the action on Homecoming night for Harper. This is where we get out first taste of what the action is going to be like, which is pretty cool, and we see the way new Paladins are made. One thing I did like was how Harper reacts to her powers; jumping over a fence and landing in a pool in the middle of a cold fall night is one heck of a way to find out if you have "superpowers."

One thing I didn't like about this book is that is climax was too short. By the time we get to the climax we only have 20 pages left to wrap up the book. I just wasn't satisfied with the ending it just didn't complete the story. Good news though there is another book...which I don't know when I'll get to.

I would definitely recommended this book. It was an action packed thriller for sure. It was a great read and I flew though it.
