Book Review: Legend

I recently read Legend by Marie Lu the first book in the Legend trilogy.
I gave Legend 4 out of 5 stars on GoodReads.
This is the GoodReads Synopsis:
"What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets."

OMG this book. It was really good, high action with very little down time, I really liked that. I also liked that it was written in dual point of view. Usually I'm not one to go for dual points of view, it just gets to confusing and the characters voices sound the same; not with this book though. June and Day have such different voices even though their personalities are very similar.

I loved the character of Day. He is such an under dog type of character. As the story progresses we find out more about what drives him which was really cool. He's story kind of fascinates me especially once you really get in to his story. (I'm not gonna spoil it for you, go read the book to see)

Things I didn't like was the world building... It just kinda confused me since clearly a war has split up the United States. Plus it's set in Los Angeles but its not set up like what I think of as a normal city, it's split up in to sectors. Next the government definitely very secretive, I felt like even though this is the first book that we could have found out a little bit more about the government and its shady business.

I will say I think this book is a lot like The Hunger Games so if you really enjoyed The Hunger Games you'll most likely like this book and the trilogy for that matter.

I do recommend that you give this book a read and I'll most likely check out some of Marie Lu's other books.
