I thought this week I would do a review for Ready Player One both the book and the movie. I recently read and saw Ready Player One and thought it was amazing. If you don't know what Ready Player One is about this is the synopsis from GoodReads "In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. When Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape."
I loved all the sci-fi elements and the virtual reality in both the book and the movie. Now that being said there were some differences like with the keys and how they were obtained but these difference I think made the story more interesting. Like the second key I kept looking for Captain Crunch but that's not how it happened in the movie. I also like all the references to pop culture from the 80's in both the movie and the book. This was super cool and I learned a lot of things I didn't know about the 80's. It actually made me want to watch some of the other movies referenced throughout the novel. Another thing that I liked was all the D&D references super nerd I know.
I would definitely give this one a read and a watch just so that you can find all the differences. It's kind of like the book and the movie have their own Easter eggs since there are differences. I personally gave the book a 5 out of 5 stars and the movie 5 out of 5 stars even thought I was different from the book. I found that both were extremely entertaining. I definitively wanted to go see the movie a second time it was so good.
